MEMBER INFORMATION AND
EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The Snaring National Advisory Group brings together over 60 members involved in snaring mitigation and prevention, including conservation practitioners, government representatives, NGOs, legal experts, scientists, and more. By joining SNAG, you become part of a diverse and collaborative community committed to knowledge-sharing, collective action, and practical solutions to protect wildlife and reduce snaring across Southern Africa.

Membership types

Within SNAG, there are three membership categories:

  1. Full Members – Any person or organisation actively involved with snaring mitigation and prevention working within South Africa.
  2. International Members – Any Southern African based organisation actively involved with snaring mitigation and prevention working outside of South Africa that may benefit from sharing of ideas and information with SNAG members.
  3. Core Group – A small group of key representatives from a diversity of organisations and geographic locations responsible for jointly co-leading and governing SNAG. Core Group applications are currently closed.

Membership Roles and Expectations

As a member of SNAG, you will be expected to:

  • Actively participate in discussions, contribute to knowledge-sharing, and support collective decision-making processes.
  • Engage in sub-groups aligned with your expertise.
  • Contribute to data collation, research, case studies, and policy recommendations.
  • Support community outreach and engagement initiatives.
  • Provide feedback on conservation strategies and legislative proposals.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with other stakeholders to advance SNAG’s objectives.

Just fill out the form, tell us about your role in snare conservation, and submit. Our Core Group reviews applications every March and September, and we will get back to you with feedback as soon as possible.

FAQs

There are no fees required to become a member of SNAG. However, members are responsible for covering their own expenses related to participation, such as travel costs for attending in-person meetings.

Any individual or organisation actively involved in snaring mitigation and prevention, whether in South Africa or neighbouring countries, is welcome to apply.

Membership is valid for three years, formalised by a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Renewal is subject to review at the end of the term.

SNAG meetings are held at least twice a year, typically in June and November. To ensure inclusivity, meeting locations rotate across different provinces where possible. Meetings are also offered in a hybrid format to maximise participation.

Applications are reviewed bi-annually during March and September by the Core Group. You will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible after the review process.
